FOUR SCOTS AMONG HUGE ENTRY FOR US FUTURES TOUR Q SCHOOL
FOUR Scots - present champion Heather Stirling (Bridge of Allan), past
champion Linzi Morton (Tulliallan), one-time girl international Claire
Hunter from Aberdeen and a relatively unknown kinswoman, Fiona Watson
from Dumfries - and one "half-Scot," Kirsty Fisher, whose dad and grandfather
both played rugby for Scotland _ are in the monster field of 318 for the
United States Futures Tour Qualifying School at Lakeland, Florida from
November 5 to 8.
Kirsty failed in an earlier bid to make it through to the US LPGA Tour
School.
Other GB&I players in the entry list include:
Vanessa Bell (Ipswich).
Jo Clingan (Gloucester).
Rebecca Hudson (Yorkshire).
Rebecca Prout (Sussex).
Katie Tebbet (Mountsorrel).
The 16-year-old identical twins from Thailand, Aree and Naree Swong Wonglukiet,
are also entered. Aree won the leading individual honour at last week's
Espirito Santo Trophy women's world amateur championship at Kuala Lumpur,
where, thanks to the twins' efforts, Thailand were pipped for the team
prize only after a card countback after they had tied with Australia on
72-hole totals.
The Thai twins live with their parents at Bradenton, Florida, attend a
golf academy-cum-school there and play as amateurs on the Futures Tour.
Presumably they have to renew their players' cards as amateurs.
Compared with the US LPGA Tour, the American Futures circuit has "peanuts"
for prize money but it does dangle the bait of an automatic player's card
for the following year's LPGA Tour for the three top money-earners each
year on the Futures Tour.
