WEBMASTER KATHLEEN SETS UP GOLF DRAW SERVICE IN NORTH-EAST
OF SCOTLAND
ONE of the biggest hassles for organisers of clubs' open tournaments is
getting their draws, their lists of tee times published in the local newspaper
so that all the competitors, well, at least those who live within the
paper's circulation area, know what time they are due to play.
Away back in the "good, old days," clubs used to send out postcards
to tournament entrants with the information but that practice gradually
disappeared when the the number of events multiplied and also the number
of competitors. It became just too costly an item in the running of an
open tournament.
The wonderful world of website technology now offers the answer to the
organisers' problems in the North-east of Scotland at any rate.
Kathleen Esslemont, a maths lecturer at Aberdeen College by profession
and a member and webmaster at both Cruden Bay and Newburgh golf clubs,
has helped some other clubs in the area to set up their websites.
Kathleen, a nine-handicap golfer, has set up a website to promote open
golf competitions in the North-east by publishing the dates and tee times
of all open events, men's, ladies', senior men/women, juniors, as well
as entry forms for these.
"Obviously, I need all the clubs in the area who run open competitions
to subscribe to the service but hopefully they will recognise the benefits
of the website and will be only too pleased to do so," said Kathleen.
"If the clubs supplied the results of their open competitions then
they could go on the website as well. The annual fee for golf clubs to
be able to use this service is £10 per open or £40 for four
or more opens a year."
Kathleen has set out the terms on the "Information for Clubs"
link on the website at www.northeastgolfdraws.co.uk
