ANNIKA (13 WINS) SECOND IN GOLF WRITERS' POLL ONCE AGAIN

SWEDEN'S Annika Sorenstam must be wondering what she has to do to win the Association of Golf Writers' Trophy, awarded annually to the person, male or female, who, in the opinion of members of the AGW, have done most for European golf in the preceding year.
Winner or winners of the trophy for 2002 are the European Ryder Cup team who came from behind on the last day at The Belfry to score that famous victory over the United States by 15 1/2-12 1/2 in September.
Skipper Sam Torrance's team gained more than half the available votes.
Annika Sorenstam, winner of 13 tournaments worldwide in 2002 including 11 on the highly competitive LPGA circuit, finished runner-up and Ernie Els, winner of the Open at Muirfield, was placed third.
The Golf Writers of America Association did bracked Annika with Tiger Woods and Hale Irwin as their players of the year for 2002.
Miss Sorenstam's 2002 earnings of 2,863,904 dollars was a record for the LPGA Tour.
In 2001, Annika, after yet another outstanding season the LPGA circuit where her achievements included a round of 59, again finished second in the AGW voting behind the victorious Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team polled the most votes.
The only women to win the AGW Trophy in recent years are Laura Davies (1994) and Alison Nicholas (1997).
Miss Sorenstam, born in Stockholm on September 10, 1970, has a few more years left to win the one trophy that seems to elude her.
