North-east girls retain Farquharson Cup

Dawn Dewar (Monifieth), captain of the North-east girls team, receives the Farquharson Trophy from Scotland women's international team captain Elaine Farquharson-Black (Deeside). North-east team manager Ethel Farquharson is on the left. Northern Counties team manager Jennie Lowden is on the right.

NORTH-East beat Northern Counties in the annual inter-area girls' match for the Farquharson Cup at Meldrum House Golf Club, Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire on Saturday.
The scoreline in North-east's figure in the eight-singles fixture was 6-2.
The last time Northern Counties won the trophy was in 1992.
Sharon Main (Moray) gave Northern Counties a good start by beating Angus women's champion and Scotland girl international, Dawn Dewar (Monifieth) by 2 and 1.
Sharon was one up on the 17th tee after what had been a very tight contest which came to an end when Dawn lost a ball off with her drive and lost the hole and the match.
North-east then took a grip on proceedings with victories by Sjavon Wilson (Murcar), Katie Thomsn (Kintore), Roseanne Niven (Crieff) and Caroline Henderson (Cruden Bay).
That made the overall scoreline 4-1 in North-east's favour before Ashley Clark (Duff House Royal) put a second point on the board for Northern Counties by beating Vikki Riddell (Turriff) by 3 and 2.
Then North-east took the last two singles with wins by Sara Thomson (Murcar) and Laura Murray (Alford).
Elaine Farquharson-Black (Deeside), skipper of the Scotland team which almost won the women's home internationals title at The Berkshire, Ascot last month, presented the trophy to Dawn Dewar, the North-east playing captain.
