SUBSTITUTE FOR LAST DAY NEWS FROM MOSCOWSCOTLAND were within a couple of putts of winning the bronze medals for third place in the European junior women's team championship at Moscow Country Club.
Sweden beat them 4-3 in the play-off for third place on Saturday but it was even closer than the bare scoreline suggests.
Scotland lost the singles 4-1 to the Swedes but two of the ties were lost at the third extra hole and another on the 18th green.
After winning both the morning foursomes, Scotland needed "only" two points from the five singles to be certain of the bronze medals.
Unfortunately, Strathclyde University student Clare Queen from Drumpellier, the British girls' double championof 2001, lost at the 21st to Emelie Svenningsson while Troon's Suzie Laing, a student at the University of San Francisco, also went down at the third extra hole to Eva Bjarvall.
Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) lost by one hole to Sofie Anderson.
Vikki Laing of Musselburgh and the University of California Berkeley was fielded in the last of the five singles and she was Scotland's only afternoon winner. Vikki beat Borjeskog by 2 and 1.
