PRESS RELEASE
ENGLISH LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION
Order of Merit Win for Kerry Knowles
English womens amateur champion Kerry Knowles (Worplesdon) pipped
Nicola Timmins (Sene Valley) for first place in the 2002 English Ladies
Golf Association Order of Merit, sponsored by Lyle & Scott.
Fifth place in the final qualifying event, the British womens open
amateur stroke-play championship at Hunstantontroke was sufficient for
Kerry to take the title by 15 points from Nicola who was fourth at Hunstanton;
reached the semi final of the English close championship and also had
a good performance at the English womens stroke-play championship.
Third place went to Rebecca Hudson, the ELGA Order of Merit winner in
2000 and 2001. Having won the British womens open amateur championship
at Ashburnham in June, Rebecca did not play in any qualifying events after
the Curtis Cup at the beginning of August.
Miss Hudson missed the English close championship which was abandoned
because of bad weather early in the season and rearranged for a Kent venue
several months later.
