PRESS RELEASE
ENGLISH LADIES' GOLF ASSOCIATION
LADIES' CLOSE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP RESCHEDULED
Following the abandonment due to atrocious weather conditions of the
79th English Ladies' Close Amateur Championship at St. Enodoc Golf
Club, Cornwall, the English Ladies' Golf Association confirmed that
the Championship has been rescheduled to take place at Littlestone
Golf Club, Kent from Monday 12th - Friday 16th August 2002. It will
replace the English Ladies' Open Intermediate Championship which
should have been held at Littlestone during that week.
ELGA is grateful to Littlestone Golf Club for allowing the course to
be used for an extra day to accommodate the bigger field the Close
Championship will involve. Consideration was given to running the two
Championships concurrently but it was decided that in the English
Ladies' Golf Association's Golden Jubilee year, the Intermediate
should, in these exceptional circumstances, give way to ELGA's major
Championship.
All those who entered the Close Championship at St Enodoc will shortly
be notified of the revised arrangements and receive entry forms, as
will the other eligible players on the ELGA database.
The ELGA Championship Committee was extremely disappointed that they
had to cancel the Close Championship at St. Enodoc, not only for the
competitors but more importantly for the club, whose staff and members
had worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the event. All
their efforts on behalf of ELGA were greatly appreciated.
