LANCASHIRE WIN
LANCASHIRE have won the English women's county team championship for the
first time since 1987.
They beat the previously unbeaten Leicestershire & Rutland 7-2 in
what was virtually the title decider on the third and final day at Moseley
Golf Club. That meant both teams finished with two wins and a loss (2pt).
Lancashire, who had lost to Kent on the first day, were able to take the
championship on the countback of games won (18-12).
Kent finished third and Glamorgan fourth.
Yorkshire, who did not qualify for the finals, had won the county championship
for the previous four years in a row.
Lancashire's team contained Scot Anne Lowe and Kirsty Fisher, whose mother
is English but father and grandfather both hail from Edinburgh and both
were hookers for the Scotland international rugby team of their day
Also in the title-winning line-up was retired Curtis Cup player and former
British champion Kim Andrew.
