PRESS RELEASE

ENGLISH LADIES' GOLF ASSOCIATION

COMPETITIVE FIELD FOR CLOSE CHAMPIONSHIP

Although the four English members of the Curtis Cup team including the 2000 and 2001 Champions, Emma Duggleby and Rebecca Hudson are unavailable, because they are still in the USA following the Curtis Cup match at Fox Chapel, and several younger players have withdrawn, notably Laura Eastwood, the English Girls' Champion, because of the clash of dates with the Girls' International Matches, there is a good field of 69 for the rearranged AEG English Ladies' Close Amateur Championship, being held at Littlestone in Kent from 12 - 16 August.

Four members of the England team for the Home Internationals will be playing at Littlestone, including new caps Sara Garbutt (Ganton), recent winner of the English Stroke Play Championship, and Alex Keighley (Lightcliffe), the 2001 Intermediate Champion, as well as Kirsty Fisher (Royal Lytham & St Annes) & Sarah Heath (Shifnal). The field also includes several other internationals including Chloe Court (Goodwood) and Rebecca Prout (Betchworth Park) as well as a number of youngsters, notably Emma McBride (Upton by Chester) winner of the Under 18 Championship at the English Stroke Play.

ELGA is very grateful to Littlestone Golf Club for allowing use of the course for an extra day. The competitors will all play two 18-hole qualifying rounds and the players returning the 32 lowest scores will qualify for the match play stages culminating in an 18 hole final on Friday 16 August.
