ANGUS WOMEN'S COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Monifieth

Dawn Dewar wins Angus Championship


Teenager Dawn Dewar from Monifieth won the Angus women's county golf championship for the first time over her home course yesterday (Sunday). She beat former title-holder Lynne Fenton (Abertay) by 5 and 4 in the final.
Dawn, who had been the leading qualifier, knocked out another past champioln, Anne Ramsay (Kirriemuir) by 3 and 2 in the morning semi-finals when Lynne had toppled the defending champion Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) by 2 and 1.
The handicap title was won by Susan Murray who plays off five at Brechin. She won the final at the 19th against Jean Wilson, a 20-handicapper at Downfield.

DAWN SURVIVES BUT FIONA IS KO’D IN ANGUS MATCH-PLAY

ONLY one of the two teenagers who headed the qualifiers for the match-play stages of the Angus women's county golf championship has survived to figure in this coming Sunday morning's semi-finals (10am) at Monfieth.

Leading qualifier Dawn Dewar, playing over her home course, is through to meet the 2000 champion and last year's beaten finalist, Ann Ramsay (Kirriemir). But Fiona Gilbert (Carnoustie), the No 2 qualifier, lost by 2 and 1 to Lynn Fenton (Abertay) in yesterday (Sun) afternoon's quarter-finals.

Miss Fenton will play the defending champion, Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose for a place in the final.
