SCOTLAND SKIPPER RECLAIMS DEESIDE RECORD
Scotland's
selectors should perhaps look no further than team skipper Elaine Farquharson-Black
to plug one of the gaps which will be left in the line-up when Heather
Stirling (Bridge of Allan) and Linzi Morton (Tulliallan) turn professional
over the next month or two.
Elaine regained the women's course record at Deeside Golf Club, where
she is an honorary member, in a medal competition on Sunday when she returned
a score of 70, two under par and four under the standard scratch score.
Her figures were: OUT: 4 3 4 5 4 3 5 4 4 - 36 IN: 4 4 4 3 5 2 4 5 3 -
34
Elaine, who had a handicap of plus one prior to the round, had no bogeys
on her card. She had 16 pars and birdies at the eighth and 15th.
Mrs Farquharson-Black set the record with a 68 which was still standing
when the course changes took place two or three years ago.
Over the "new" Deeside course, by general agreement a much tougher lay-out
than its predecessor, local member Fiona Hay held the record until Sunday
with a score in the mid-70s.
Elaine, an Aberdeen solicitor specialising in planning, is also a member
at Aberdeen Ladies and Braemar and she holds the women's record scores
at Balgowrie, Braemar and Lossiemouth.
Over the years she has also set records at Duff House Royal, Fraserburgh,
Turriff and Cruden Bay.
A Curtis Cup player in 1990 and 1992, Elaine, now 34, last played for
Scotland in the women's home internationals at Lahinch in 1997. She was
a playing member of the last two Scotland teams to beat England, winning
the title at Hunstanton (where she won six out of six games) and Aberdovey)
in 1990 and 1991.
